Inclined Spherical Mixer for Powders and Liquid Addition

When you mix powders, granulates, or formulations that contain both solids and liquids, conventional mixers often create dead zones or uneven distribution. A mixing chamber that continuously redistributes the material through the batch improves homogeneity and reduces mixing time.

Achieve homogeneous batch mixing with inclined spherical chamber

The Glaxiaris mixer from Glomix is a batch mixing system built around an inclined spherical mixing chamber that improves the circulation of ingredients during mixing. The chamber is mounted at an angle of approximately 23 degrees, inspired by the Earth’s axis. This inclination continuously moves the product mass during rotation, preventing stagnant zones and ensuring that all ingredients circulate through the mixing volume.

The spherical chamber geometry reduces the internal surface area compared with conventional cylindrical vessels. Because the product encounters fewer flat surfaces and corners, wall friction is lower. This reduces energy consumption and allows shorter mixing cycles while maintaining high mixing quality. According to the manufacturer, the system can achieve mixture homogeneity levels above 99%, even for complex formulations.

Inside the mixer, two mixing tools mounted on a single axis generate independent mixing flows that improve ingredient distribution throughout the chamber. This configuration supports efficient mixing of powders, granulates, and formulations where liquids are added during the process. Liquids such as water, oils, or emulsions can be dosed directly into the mixing chamber, where the geometry distributes them evenly across the solids.

The mixer can also operate efficiently at low fill levels thanks to the secondary mixing tool, allowing flexible batch sizes during product development or smaller production runs. Glomix manufactures the mixer in several sizes, with net mixing volumes ranging from approximately 50 litres up to 5,000 litres depending on the model series. Example configurations include GLM 60 (50 L net volume), GLM 900 (700 L), and GLM 6300 (5,000 L), enabling both laboratory-scale and industrial batch production.

Typical applications include blending powders for tea or coffee mixtures, dietary supplements, dairy formulations, mineral or vitamin premixes, and animal feed products where uniform ingredient distribution is required. The inclined geometry also supports efficient emptying of the mixing chamber after each batch. Product flows naturally towards the discharge flap, reducing residues and simplifying cleaning between product changes.
