Detect contaminants inside bottles and vertical packages

The XSpectra® Lateral/Diagonal Inspection system from Xnext is designed for inline inspection of vertically oriented packaged products such as bottles, jars, cans, and flexible bags. The machine uses a lateral or diagonal inspection geometry that allows the X-ray beam to analyse products from the side rather than from above.

This inspection geometry improves contaminant detection in products with significant height or layered contents, where foreign bodies may otherwise be hidden when inspected from a vertical direction.The system uses the same XSpectra® spectral analysis technology, comparing absorption across up to 1,024 X-ray energy levels to identify differences between the product and potential contaminants. This allows detection of both dense contaminants such as metal or glass and low-density foreign bodies including plastics or organic material.

The machine performs multi-spectrum analysis of each product in milliseconds while it moves through the inspection area. This makes the system suitable for integration into high-speed food production lines where packaged products must be inspected continuously. Typical applications include inspection of bottles, jars, cans, and vertical flexible packaging such as biscuit bags, where reliable contaminant detection inside the product container is required.
